Goodbye 2016 & well hello there 2017!

So it seems amazing that here we are at the end of yet another year.  For some 2016 has been a bad year and we have lost a lot of amazing famous faces this year which is immensely sad, but with New Year’s Eve comes a time for reflection and a time of hope for the year ahead.

For Libby Edwards Photography 2016 has been another very busy year.  I have been honored to photograph so many newborn babies – capturing how tiny they are when they are so new to the world.  I have been thrilled to see some of my previous newborns come back this year for another photoshoot and have loved seeing how they have grown and changed into the little people they now are.  I have also been delighted to welcome back previous clients when they have a new addition to their family, and loved being able to capture those precious memories for them again.

On a professional level 2016 has seen my work continue to develop (no pun intended) and improve.  In February I was thrilled to achieve Pro-level status with the Baby & Newborn Photographers Association – you can see my panel of images here.  I have also won a number of photography association awards for my work over the year which you can see here.  I have continued my own photography education through attending a workshop with Kelly Brown of Little Pieces Photography and then paid my knowledge forward through training another photographer in safe handling and posing – you can read about both here.

On a personal note 2017 is set to be my most exciting year yet as I prepare to welcome my own bundle of joy into the world in Spring.  I have long wanted to have a family of my own and to have that dream finally coming true is amazing.  I will still be working part time next year but will obviously be taking a couple of months out in the lead up to and soon after baby’s arrival.  So next year I am looking forward to lots of baby cuddles not only with my tiny clients but also with my own little one.

Whatever next year has in store for you I wish you health and happiness for 2017, and I look forward to meeting lots of new little faces next year.

Hampshire baby photographer – Merry Christmas 2016!

Well before all the craziness of Christmas really starts it seems like a good time to drop by and wish all my clients (past, present & future) a very Merry Christmas.  I will certainly be busy over the next few days seeing family from all over the UK but I’ll be back in the studio next week for a newborn photoshoot.  I hope whatever you get up to that you have a lovely Christmas, especially those of you spending your first Christmas as a family.

As for next year things at Libby Edwards Photography will be busier than ever as I get ready to welcome my own little bundle of joy into the world in the Spring!  So for me 2017 is set to be a very exciting year and I hope your 2017 brings you everything you hope for.

Portsmouth newborn baby photography – Sophia’s portrait session

Often when client’s arrive they come with lots of ideas of the kind of photos they would like for their session.  I’m always happy to try to accommodate most ideas but I love it when clients request something I don’t often get to do as it’s not my ‘normal style‘.

Today Sophia came to have her newborn baby photos taken at just 7 days old.  Sophia was only just over 7lbs at birth but certainly was in a real hurry to be born as her Mummy only had one hour from when she got to the hospital to when Sophia made her grand appearance!  Luckily Sophia was not in so much of a hurry for the photoshoot although she was very ticklish.

Sophia’s parents came with lots of images they’d seen that they liked – the majority of which are all poses I do as part of my normal routine.  However I was delighted to see that they had also picked out some beautiful black & white images of a baby in it’s Daddy’s hands.  This is a style I love but rarely get asked to do.  When Sophia’s Daddy then asked if there was a way to include both parents in the shot I knew immediately which pose to do and I think you will agree the result is stunning!

Portsmouth baby photography – Dorothy’s cake smash

There is nothing I love more than getting to work with babies that I’ve photographed before as love to see how they are growing up.  Today I had that chance when Dorothy came for her first birthday cake smash.

The last time I saw Dorothy was when she was 8 days old and came for her newborn photos – you can see her sneak peek here.  So I was thrilled when her Mummy got in touch earlier this year to book her cake smash.  I offer both simple, classic cake smashes and my very popular themed cake smashes.  So it was no surprise when Dorothy’s Mummy decided on a Wizard of Oz theme.

So I spent a few evenings putting together a unique set-up and my cake maker made the most wonderful cake with all the characters included.  Dorothy’s Mummy also managed to find a lovely outfit for her to wear for the shoot.  As you can see in her sneak peek she made short work of the cake!

Hampshire baby photography – Fred’s portrait session

Today my client stole something from me … my heart!

Little Fred came in for some Christmas baby photos and he was such a cutie I could have kept him.  Fred was born at 27 weeks in February weighing just over 2lbs & with only one kidney, but he is such a little fighter and clearly very happy to be here.

Normally at 9mths most babies are sitting up unassisted but where Fred is so little he’s not quite there yet.  So for his photos I had his Mummy supporting him at all times and then with a little Photoshop magic I took her out of the final images.  As you can see in his sneak peek he’s pretty pleased with himself!

Baby photoshoots are such a wonderful way of capturing baby around halfway through their first year.  I get booked up very quickly so always recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.
