Hello, my name is Libby and I’m the photographer at Libby Edwards Photography. I’m a thirty-something, born and bred in Hampshire.
I’ve been interested in photography since I was a little girl and was given a hand-me-down Kodak film camera. My poor mum couldn’t keep up with processing all the films I used to get through! I began taking my hobby seriously over 15 years ago, when I got my first Nikon SLR and learnt traditional film photography at night school.
I started Libby Edwards Photography as a wedding photographer, which I really enjoyed. However I have always admired newborn photography and in particular the work of Anne Geddes and Kelley Ryden. I finally took the plunge into newborn photography myself in 2012 when a friend asked me to photograph her new baby boy. What can I say – it was love at first click!
After that first photoshoot I realised what I should be doing, and decided that newborn photography was where my talents and passion lie. Since then I have trained with some of the UK’s leading newborn photographers and was pleased in 2013 to re-launch Libby Edwards Photography as being specialist to newborn and babies.
I was thrilled in December 2013 to be accepted into the Baby & Newborn Photography Association (BANPAS – previously known as the British Association of Newborn Photographers). BANPAS aim to promote safe handling and posing of babies, as well as having a high standard of customer service. I was even more pleased in February 2016 to be awarded pro-level member status and a Commended for my work – you can see my blog post and panel images here.
In 2014 I decided to continue my professional development and applied to join the International Professional Photographers Network (IPPN). In order to be approved as a member of IPPN your work is reviewed by a board of highly successful established photographers. Once initially accepted you then have to go through a 3 month probation period where your work continues to be examined to ensure you maintain a high standard. In addition you have to prove that you hold the correct level of insurance, as professionalism in how you run your business is equally important. I was very pleased to gain full member status in August 2014.
My aim is to work with parents to include their ideas to capture beautiful images of their little ones that they will treasure forever. Safety is always my top priority and I pay close attention to the babies to ensure they are safe and comfortable at all times. I have a large range of hats, blankets, wraps and props ready to use in my sessions, but always welcome the opportunity to include items sentimental to the baby’s family. Of course if parents would rather leave all the creative side to me, that’s fine too.
Apart from my photography I totally adore my Siamese cats. I’m a Disney fanatic, I love horses (just can’t afford one) and enjoy paper-crafting and scrapbooking. I have also most recently become hooked on knitting so that I can make my own props. Apart from my cats I also share my life with my long-suffering and ever patient boyfriend of 16 years.
If you would like to consider Libby Edwards Photography for a portrait session, or if you have any questions please do get in touch.
Hope to hear from you soon.
